As a combined heat and power (CHP) plant, district energy system and micro-grid in one, MATEP provides efficient, sustainable, reliable and
resilient energy.
System Defined Features
- A co-generation or CHP plant, MATEP simultaneously generates electricity and useful thermal energy from
the combustion of a single fuel.
- As a district energy system MATEP produces steam and chilled water at a central plant. The steam and chilled water are then piped underground to
individual buildings for heating, domestic hot water, sterilization and air conditioning.
- MATEP is a micro-grid, a power network that can operate independently of the main grid, creating resiliency for the designated area.
- The combination of the production of electricity, heat and cooling systems in one facility makes MATEP a tri-generation or a combined cooling, heat and power (CCHP)
plant.
